Moment #15 – Gray Bulb.

Winter slouches back.

Tule fog, morning haze,

flatten all to gray.

    cattle: rolled hay bales –
    their geometric beauty,
    the tractor presents.

    while the 4WD
    mushes in the slushy slush
    tow truck? not ’round here.

        down in the valley,
        coyotes sing their presence
        wolves? I may suspect.

        2 packs to be sure
        the call and response echoes
        in this midwest Wyeth.

      2. The haiku challenge!
        Ancient form with ‘space-age’ means.
        Always 5 to end!

  2. I was driving this morning through that afterthought of a place, El Cerrito, when the synthesis of place, ambient air and light seemed to be in agreement, if not quite harmony. The quality of atmosphere had reduced everything to gray tones, canceling color and obscuring details in each layer of Eisenhoweresque edifice. From grey to white, the place was so pleasantly removed from itself, dull getting duller. It was the diminution of information and scale that felt nice.

      usually yes
but in the middle line, one
      has been using 6

      night, protective ice
      underlies the snowy lanes
      groceries? Friday.

      1. Ouch, you’re right! I did
        use six instead of seven,
        in the middle. Fixed!

        Today’s sun’s cranking,
Now doubt spring is here! Boo to
        Punxsutawney Phil!
